Terrifier (2017)

All Hallows Eve - that is the movie that introduced Art the clown to myself and the wife and it freaked us out truth be told.

So when I heard the character was to be resurrected for Terrifier I was ecstatic to say the least and thankfully the movie does not disappoint.

What I like about Art is that we never really know 'what' he is!  Is he a supernatural force?  Alien? Or just a sadistic man in a mask?

Does it matter?

Well nope - not a jot!  I just like the fact that we never really get to know and luckily for us fans, writer/director Damien Leone, as far as I'm aware, has never answered this question.

But as for Terrifier - Art's latest outing, we see him this time stalk a couple of friends who have been out enjoying a Halloween party.

Unluckily for them, their night is going to turn into a fight for survival as Art makes them his latest prey to add to his long list of victims and he will stop at nothing - killing anyone who get's in his way.

It goes without saying that if you have a fear of clowns then this is certainly a movie you will not watch.  Also, this is not a movie for the faint hearted as there is a lot of gore - and I mean a lot!

The kill scenes are graphic and bloody but that is the nature of Art and how he goes about his business.  He has no empathy and shows no emotion to his victims.

There is some fine acting performances from Jenna Kanell and Catherine Corcoran (Tara and Dawn in the movie) as the two early victims in the movie but it goes without saying that David Howard Thornton who is playing Art for the first time steals the show with a mesmerizing performance as the killer clown who never utters a single word throughout the movie but it is his mannerisms and body language that say all that is needed to be said!

Overall Terrifier is brutal and a great throwback to the 80s slasher movies.  It's not for the faint hearted, it's not a movie to be taken lightly.

There are some scenes that will shock you and there are some that are funny but still in tone with the movie.

Speaking of humour - there is one scene in particular when one of his victims (the sister of Tara) manages to escape Art and instead of him going at full pelt to catch up with her he squeezes one of those horns you generally find on a kids bicycle.  It's like the movie is giving you the chance to catch breath or lulling you into a false sense of security because you know damn well Art won't let his victims get away so easily.

And if you are like me and start to question what Art is or what is making him go on such brutal killing sprees - then stop!  Just watch the movie for what it is.  You won't find any clues or any meaning to his brutality so just enjoy the ride!

This is one of THE horror movies of 2018!
